Moving chicks to their new home

Well we're glad that we could post again!  We moved the chickens into their new home a couple of days ago!!  So as most of y'all know we had the 95 chickens in the coop closest to our house, and we kept most of them in the coop that morning so it would be easier to get the chickens when we were ready to transfer them (We close the hatch at night and then open the hatch in the morning) !

We put the chickens in our dad's trailer with a tarp on top.

We had a tub that we put the chickens in and then we put it on our wagon and wheeled it over to the trailer!

The placing of the tub.

The chickens in the trailer.

The white thing that looks like a a green house (which it is!) we built with a friend of ours last year for the chickens.

This is the inside of the chicken coop.  The big white thing in the middle of the coop (there is another one behind it) is a nesting box for them to lay their eggs in. (Dad had around 13 older chickens that have been in the coop for a while and we are getting around 10 eggs a day!)

Daddy and I (Caleb) are in the front of the trailer trying to get the chickens out.

And the Marines came down to the beach.......

Some of them inspecting their new home.

Caleb coming out of the trailer.

Inspecting for insectoids.

Caleb likes the tails of these chickens and he calls them "Indian feathers"!

We had a 30 gallon galvanized can that was filled with ash (from are Central broiler) and Dad emptied it and we put around 4 bags of feed in so we could use it as a container to hold the food and it would be easier for us to get the feed and not feed the field mice.
Getting the bags of feed.

Pouring the feed in.

One of Dad's Buff Orpington hen sittin' and relaxin' !

We hope y'all had a good time lookin' it the pics of the chickens!  Sorry for posting late!
Till next time, God Bless!

Chickens and such.

Well my sister told me if we needed any help taking pictures she would be glad to help!!  So yesterday she asked when we wanted to take pic's of the chicks, so I told her we could do it after dinner!!
All we did was take pictures of the chicks and what types!

So here are some pics of the younger
chicks that we got from some neighbors' of ours!
This is a Buff Orpington.

I think this is a Black something!

This is its wing span!  Pretty small compared to the bigger chicks!

This is the wing span but just underneath the wing!!

I'm not sure what this one is!
Well my sister Alexis came out and wanted to put some of the chicks on my head and shoulders!  Two of them tried to peck my eye but I would always dodge it!
My sister putting the chicks on me.

The right chick (on my shoulder) kept on trying to peck my eye multiple times!!  So one time the same chick tried to peck my eye again but I closed my eye, so then the other chicks on my left shoulder suddenly swiched around and pecked my eye!!  So I put the chicks down and made sure my eye was alright and it was, thankfully!!

Now for the bigger chicks!
This is a Buff Orpington wing span!

This is a Golden Laced Wyendotte, I've always loved the gold around their necks!!

This girl is an Aracauna!  We gave them the name "poofy chicks" for the feathers on the cheeks!!

Me (Caleb) and my sister Alexis.

We have two girls that look exactly the same and are different from the others!
By that time Seth came out so Seth and I got a picture together holding chickens!

Well I hope y'all had a fun time looking at are pictures! Just to remind you the chickens will start to lay in late August or early September!
Till next time, God Bless!

Little Chicks And Big Chicks!!

Well the eight new chicks that we got are growing big and strong!  We moved them into the coop with the big chicks a couple days ago and put them in a old bunny cage we had.  Just two days ago we put them in the old fence (were the bigger chicks used to be) and let them fly around and stretch there wings!!  They are doing well!!

Well, that's six of them!

Scratching and digging for worms and bugs!!

Two of them looking at each other!!

Just in case y'all were wondering this is what the plastic mesh which makes the pen that the little chicks are now in!

Now the bigger chicks!

The big chicks moved up to the bigger feeder since they eat a little more than they used to!!

This is a Buff Orpington! I guess she's just sitten and relaxin!

These guys -I think- are dust bathing ( which means they lay down in the ground and shuffle the dirt on them, it helps to keep mites off their skin!!) !!

Well I hope y'all enjoyed the pic's and such!!
Till next time,
God Bless!

Moving chicks and getting more chicks.

I'm so sorry for not being able to post last week! Saturday we went with dad to work and we didn't get back home till around 6:00, and Monday and Tuesday I went with daddy again (this week we had spring break) !

Well last Thursday we had a neighbor come over and asked if we wanted eight chicks!! We said yes!!
After we showed them the 98 chicks that we already had they went back to there house to get the chicks (they did not have them with them) . While we were waiting for them to come back we got a cage for them and put food and water in it.  After about five minutes they arrived with eight chicks in a box they came in and gave them to us!! They were probably 2 or 3 days old when we got them!

Aren't they fuzzy?!

Now for the bigger chicks!  A couple days ago we decided to move the big mama's that were in the pen and put the chicks in it!  We held a chick to the fence holes and we figured out that the chicks could not get out of the fence unless they were really scared.

They usually look like this when we come in the morning to open the hatch to let them out!  They are always eager to get out!!
Were now going to show you the pen they are now in!

This is behind the coop which is where they come out of and roam around!

This is the farthest part from the coop.

This part is from the side of the coop
This is the hole coop and pen!

Thanks for lookin' at the pictures that we had!! Sorry for getting to post so late!!
Till next time, God Bless!!

Well to day Seth and I decided to put a little pen beside the coop with a little bit of wire mesh we found so the chicks could have a little bit more room to fly around. Here it is!

Not too much but a little more room!

Getting some water.

Some times they like to jump on top of the feeders and waterers, so here are some pics of one of them on top!

Isn't that neat!?

This is a Wyandotte, one of our many varieties of chickens.

The next pic looks like the chicks were arguing over something and then they walked off in different directions (Seth's idea)!

Like we said...... walking away:)

This is a Sex Link or Red Stars or Golden Comet or whatever you want to call them(They have lots of names!!)!!

Well that's it for now, I hope you enjoyed the chicks!!

Till next time, God bless!

Quick Update.

Just a quick update on the chicks.  A Chicken died yesterday afternoon, and it was a small Barred Rock. She was so small that Dad thought that she could have been trampled on and then died:(  We had one that was constipated so both were in the sick ward, mostly composed of a crate. So he got better in like.....a day and a half and we put him(or she) in with the other chicks again!!

I hope I can post some pictures soon, but we've been very busy doing school, gardens, and miscellaneous stuff!

Till next time, God bless!!
