Quick update

Sorry for not posting lately!  We have one that we hope to post today!
Just so ya'll know, we think that something is eating our girls.  And we think is is probably at night.  Sooooo....  we'll might have to sleep with our girls on night!  We're not sure what type of animal it is yet.

Till next time, God Bless!

"NEW" Egg Coolers

A couple months ago (yes, this is a late post) we found two "150 Quart White Marine Coolers" for sale on Craig's List and decided to get them for Solid Rock Ranch Egg Factory's selling advantage.

Here she is! They are rather enormous in size- we used them as human "dog" beds when we first got them!  The children enjoy playing various animal games and always seem to have a shortage of perfect pet houses! :)
They are also pretty heavy in-it-of-themselves, so adding many dozen eggs makes it quite a burden to carry outside to our van! :) Us "men" manage well though! :) (of course;)
The inside of one of the coolers.  They are identical twins, so I only took pictures of one of them! ;)

Anyway, that's it for now!  Misty is being a great horse! (coming up on the next post)  I hope you all have a blessed CHRISTmas weekend!  Don't forget that HE's the reason for the hustle and bustle of this season!

God Bless,

Misty

We'll now tell y'all what the new addition to the farm is!  It is... a Pony!!  She's 25 years old and we're not sure what type of breed she is!

We walked her around the field when we got her out of the trailer!
For some reason Halle was really checking her out!

And the last picture for the day!

All chickens are doing fine and we are still gitting around 50-60 eggs a day!  A lot for during the winter!
The Lord is really answering our prayers!  We are so blessed!

Lean-to and chickens!

Welcome back! We haven't had a lot of things going on around here so here is a quick update on how things are coming along here at the ranch!

Our happy, free roaming chickens!  In this picture they are spread out farther than normal!  Really getting some bugs!

Halle in her finished barn!  Now, you may be wondering why we called it finished when there is a open space in the back corner....

Well, that is for a future addition that would be used for Halle's summer calf.

It would sort of look like the above picture.  Of course that "box" would have siding, but for your sake, we left it like that.  We're not closing it right now because she doesn't have a baby.

A closer look at the back of the lean-to.

This is the inside of the lean-to.  One side of it, anyway. ;)  You can see that up on the upper right of the ceiling of the barn we added a light- this should make it easier to milk now at night! The other side doesn't have shelves or anything its just plain siding and boards.

Happily munching on her hay.

Now to the chickens......

An Americana chicken. They come in all different colors but there are a few similarities they share that set them apart from the other breeds.  1st- They have fluff on their cheeks.  2nd- They have blue-gray feet.  3rd- They lay blue-green eggs.
A curious Americana.

The hens in their home.  We have been spreading lots of hay on the coop ground to make our eggs and their feet cleaner.

Five eggs in a unoccupied old dog igloo that we put in the chicken house and there was straw in it so the lay eggs in it every day!

Enjoying dust-baths.
The Lord is really answering our prayers right now! We're so blessed!

Till next time, and God bless!

Lean-to

Well, we'll show ya'll the lean-to for the cow.  The frame is made of wood, and the outside and roof are covered by galvanized metal sheets (yet to be finished).

This is the back that we haven't finished yet, but we have done the roof and one side.  We're leavin' the farthest side without siding so we (in the future) can build another one connecting to it.

The whole thing.
The cow is doing fine and so are the chickens!

She's a Jersey cow, chewin' her cud.

She likes to occasionally sit down during the day. The chickens love her too!
Selling the eggs is going great, the Lord is definitely answered our prayers!
All chickens are doin' fine and so are the older girls!
Hope ya'll injoyed the post!
Till next time, God Bless!

Cleanin' the coop

On Saturday we cleaned out the older girls coop that was filled with shredded paper and we filled it with hay instead.  We'll give you before and after pictures!

Before...

..and After.

Before....

...and after.
And so on..

We were glad to be able to clean the coop again since we've been getting cleaner eggs!
As ya'll know we got our cow....

...and we are in the process of finishing a lean-to for her (12 by 16) .  That'll be on the next post!
Till next time, God Bless!

Baby chick!

On Sunday we wanted to move the eight chickens (after church) that we got from our neighbor and while we were doing that we heard a, "peep".  Now we knew we had a couple girls brooding so we ran in the chicken coop and saw a baby chicken on the floor!  We were very exited to find our own baby chick!

We think it is a Golden Comet chicken!

We were once again like, "Wow, it's so small!"

But Mr. chicky died.  He wouldn't eat the food we gave him, he would just eat bugs.
The other chickens are doing fine, we have two Buff Orpington roosters of the eight that we got from our neighbor, and the rest are girls, that we know of!
We hope to post Saturday when we clean out the old girls coop!
Till next time,
God Bless!

Chiken growth.

For the past week we haven't had a lot of stuff going on lately!  Selling the eggs is going on fine, the Lord is really answering prayer!  We're getting around 60-70 eggs a day now and getting only about 2 blue eggs a day and around 5 white eggs a day and the rest are brown eggs!  We are still thinkin' about the mixed dozen, if y'all would like it just leave a comment or email us at: wassfam@aol.com!

Well let's do the interview of the "girls" and see the stages of their growth!

This is the day we got them they were about three days old.

And this is when we moved them to the chicken coop.....about 12 weeks old

and getting older...4 months or so.

when we allowed them to free roam...

older....about 5 months

and when we moved them to their home base for the rest of their lives on pasture.....6 and beyond......

and how they are right now!!

From this...

To this!!

They grow very fast compared to humans!

We hope to hear from ya'll soon!
Till next time , God Bless

Exciting happenings!

We have some new things happening on the farm!  First we did find the snake....
He had four eggs in his belly,

and it was also as tall as Seth!
We found him when we were movin' the eggs boxes and he was in one of the cinderblocks!

The girls in the field!

This is what it looked like after we moved the eggs boxes.  We moved the nesting boxes so the chickens wouldn't roost on the tops of them; so far it has been workin'!
We are startin' to sell the eggs now! If y'all look on the price page it is updated again, we just changed a couple things!!  We are going to bring a cooler to our church in our big white van each week and also there is a change box in the cooler so you can make change yourself.

This was the old eggs price sheet....
And this is the new one! (Which will be inside of the change box.)
This is the eggs we brought with us on Sunday!
Our family finally got what we have been looking for a year!
A.........
Cow!  We got her yesterday!  I hope she keeps the chickens company!
Till next time, God Bless!

Update

Well this week we were at Nags Head, North Carolina so we couldn't post but we had a fun time!  We had a friend watch over all the animals for us and while he was gatherin' the eggs he saw a black snake.  Caleb had seen one before but no one else saw it,  and we think that is why we are not gettin' as much eggs then we should so we're hoping to catch it soon!  We have had two of the older Golden Comets broodin' for a couple of weeks so the eggs are gettin' close to hatching!  We also got our first blue eggs while we were at the beach!
We hope to get some more pictures and eggs!
Till next time, God Bless!
